Microsoft Silverlight is a recent technology for web development, enabling creation of Rich Internet Applications (RIAs) incorporating video and imaging.
It is very attractive to experienced .NET developers because it allows them to leverage their existing skills.
In addition, the Xaml skills developed using Silverlight will be applicable to Windows 8 development.

Breeder & Artist Websites |
|
We recently developed a website for a breeder of purebred cats completely in
Silverlight. Using Silverlight allowed us to create a website that is very
attractive, and handles both images and videos of the breeder's animals. In
addition, we developed a complete administration site, also in Silverlight, so
that the breeder can keep their site fresh. Data is stored securely in a SQL
Server database on the server. |

|
We have integrated a touch application written in Silverlight with the ShoreTel phone system, to produce an automatic receptionist.

The Greeting Assistant |
We recently implemented a desktop telephone application for a company that manages packaged offices.
Using the called number, the application does a database look-up and displays information such as the company name, a standard greeting,
and a list of extensions for the company's personnel.
The telephone operators can update the database with special instructions, such as "Jane Doe is working from home until 2:00 pm today".
This application has allowed the pacakged office telephone operators to answer each incoming call in a very personalized way.
This application is useful for any organization with a telephone switchboard
that handles many different internal phone numbers -- it allows the operators to
know who the incoming call is for, and therefore give both a personal greeting,
and information as to the availability of the person being called. |

SQL Reporting came of age with the introduction of SQL Server 2005. SQL 2005 (& 2008) Reporting offers a powerful report engine, coupled with an ad-hoc Report Builder for end-users to create reports using data models generated by developers, thus sparing the end-users from the necessity of navigating relational databases to build their reports. In addition there is a web interface to your reports, available to anyone on your intranet. SQL Server's integration with the Common Language Runtime of the .NET framework means that reports can be generated from programmatically-manipulated data, thus vastly expanding the capabilities of the report engine.
Reports can be exported to a variety of formats, including spreadsheets and .pdf files.
We recently used this technology to develop a suite of reports for a major broadcaster.
